I've been startled by how useful I've found Julia Child's cookbooks. "The Way to Cook" is also free of all those strictures that the French place on their cuisine (which you'll notice in "Mastering The Art"). I've been using "How to Cook Everything" the same way that you've been using "The Joy of Cooking". I'll have to put Irma Rombauer back into my rotation.
